Moong Dal Halwa is a delicious, traditional Indian dessert prepared from split yellow gram (moong dal). While made in A2 desi cow ghee, the halwa tastes richer and gains added health benefits. A2 ghee is derived from Indian desi cows, known for its nutritional value and digestive properties, making it an ideal choice for such desserts. In this blog, let’s explore a simple recipe for making Moong Dal Halwa.
Ingredients For Moong Dal Halwa
- 1 cup moong dal
- 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 cup A2 ghee
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup milk (optional for creaminess)
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- Chopped nuts (almonds, cashews) for garnishing
Instructions To Prepare Moong Dal Halwa
- Prepare the Moong Dal: Wash the moong dal under running water. Let it soak in water for approximately 30 minutes. The soaking makes the dal soft and easy to cook.
- Cook the Dal: Drain the soaked dal and add it to a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water. Cook for about 3-4 whistles or until soft. Allow it to cool slightly, then mash it coarsely.
- Heat A2 Ghee: In a pan, heat A2 ghee on medium flame. The high smoke point of A2 ghee makes it ideal for cooking without losing its nutritional properties.
- Roast the Dal: Roast the moong dal dal in the pan for 5-7 minutes. This makes it slightly browned. It gives a rich flavour to the halwa.
- Add Sugar and Milk: Add in the sugar and milk (in case of using). Mix well and cook till the sugar dissolves completely. The mixture will start to thicken as it cooks.
- Flavour with Cardamom: Add cardamom powder and mix thoroughly. Continue cooking until the halwa leaves the sides of the pan, indicating that it is ready.
- Garnish and Serve: Transfer the halwa to a serving dish and garnish with chopped nuts. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Using A2 ghee not only adds a rich flavour but also provides health benefits such as improved digestion and enhanced nutrient absorption due to its healthy fat content. This traditional dessert is perfect for festivals or special occasions, showcasing the goodness of Indian cuisine while promoting wellness through ingredients like A2 ghee.
