Ganesh Chaturthi is a time of joy, devotion, and celebration, and it is not complete without the traditional offering of Modaks to Lord Ganesha. In this blog, we’ll walk you through a simple recipe for making Modaks using A2 desi ghee. Known for its purity and rich taste, A2 ghee adds a special touch to the Modaks, making them both delicious and wholesome. This easy-to-follow recipe will guide you through the process to make the perfect Modaks for this festive occasion.
Ingredients
For the Outer Layer:
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1.5 cups water
- 1 tsp A2 desi ghee
- 1 pinch of salt
For the Filling:
- 1.5 cups freshly grated coconut
- 1⁄2 cup powdered jaggery
- 1 tsp A2 desi cow ghee
- 3-4 cardamom pods, powdered
- 1 tsp roasted poppy seeds/khasakhas
- 1 tsp rice flour
- 1 pinch nutmeg powder
- 5 soaked, sliced and chopped almonds
- 6-7 sliced unsalted pistachios (optional)
Instructions
- In a pan, combine the grated coconut, 1 tsp A2 ghee and powdered jaggery. Cook this mixture for 3-4 minutes on medium heat.
- Then add the roasted poppy seeds, cardamom powder, nutmeg powder and the other filling ingredients. Mix everything well and set it aside.
- In the same pan, boil the water with 1 tsp ghee and a pinch of salt. Then reduce the heat, add the rice flour and stir continuously to prevent lumps.
- Cook the rice flour on low heat for 2-3 minutes and turn off the heat. Then cover the pan, and let it rest for 4-5 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to a bowl and let it cool. Then knead it thoroughly, adding a little warm water if needed to get a smooth texture.
- Now, take a small ball of dough and roll it into a thin circle about 3-4 inches wide. Then place the coconut jaggery filling in the centre.
- To get the shape of the Modak, gather the edges, and pinch them to create folds. Then bring them together at the top and press to seal the gaps. You can also use a mould if the manual method is not for you.
- Once you’ve shaped all your Modaks, steam them for 10-15 minutes until they are cooked.
- Then drizzle a few drops of A2 desi ghee on the hot modaks and serve immediately.
By following this simple recipe, you can create Modaks that are both delicious and nourishing. The nutty, creamy flavour of A2 cow ghee complements the coconut and jaggery filling perfectly. Enjoy these delicious homemade modaks during your Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations!
